COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


Effective Office Management and Administration
This course is designed to meet the Office Management Needs of Organisations jockeying towards excellence in the management of the office process. It focuses on the following:
 • Office and managerial role/approaches to management thinking
 • Office planning and layout
 • Communication in the office
 • Control of office activities
 • Supervision/leadership in the office
 • Motivating employees

The target participants are supervisors, administrative assistants and personal assistants.


Accounting for Non-Accountants
Many managers do not fully appreciate that they participate both directly and indirectly in the accounting system of their organisation; they are not sure about their role in financial planning and control.

As heads of responsibility centers, managers participate in the accounting system in many ways, for example: overseeing revenue generation and control, taking expenditure decisions, controlling payroll, supervising the use of assets, and preparing budgets.

A proper exposure of managers to some basic aspects of accounting systems and procedures would enlighten them to their role in their organisation’s financial control system and be an invaluable ingredient to their effectiveness in the organisation.

The course is targeted at Chief executives, non-accounting functional directors, chief managers, senior managers, regional managers, area managers, etc.


Financial Modelling / Business Spreadsheet Applications
This course provides managers with understanding of how finance affects their business objectives. This interactive course introduces essential financial management techniques and provides managers with a solid appreciation of corporate finance. It equips non-finance managers with comprehensive knowledge of financial principles and offers a strong foundation in financial management. Participants learn to interpret financial data in ways that enable them improve their personal effectiveness and make more comprehensive and productive corporate contributions. The course is also designed for managers and professionals who are responsible for financial issues without necessarily having a job title or qualification to match.

Values, Ethics and Organisational Productivity
Ethics and values are central to any organisation. Both are extremely broad terms; this course therefore focuses on the aspects most relevant for strategic leaders and decision-makers. The course discusses the distinctive nature of ethics for managers; second, the forces which influence the ethical behaviour of individuals in organizations; and third, explore the actions strategic leaders can take to build ethical climates in their organizations.  Finally, the course examines the relationship between values/ethics and enhanced productivity in institutions and organisations. Relevant cases and simulation exercises form a key component of this course.

The target groups are: politicians, public/civil servants, local government personnel,
Private/business sector officials and NGOs.  Preferably, top and middle level managers will be well suited for this type of training.


Effective Human Resource Management
A company’s competitive advantage, and therefore its long term survival and growth in today’s global economy depend on the quality of its workforce. Employees are the most complex and critical of all the resources organisations have. The workshop will help participants to change the way they and their organisations think about the human resources function by introducing the concept of HR as “business within business”.

The course will examine the relationship between the overall management of the Organisations and the human resources management, the shared and complementary responsibilities of HR specialists and line managers in creating and managing a highly skilled and motivated work force for the economy of the 21st Century.

The Act of Being an Effective Personal Assistant
The role of the personal assistant has evolved over the years. Busy business people are looking for an assistant who is able to act as a business manager, able to think on their feet and is business aware enough to juggle and coordinate projects and teams. This training is a must for anyone who is looking for more responsibility and a challenge. It is for those who want to be an asset to their boss to the extent of being capable of representing them in meetings and negotiate on their behalf.
At the end of the session you will be able to understand your boss better, look and work smart, manage your team’s expectation as well as cut down on unnecessary pressure
 
The target groups are: Executive Assistants, Personal Assistants, Pastor’s Assistants. Executive Secretaries etc


Hospital Management Practice
The overall objective of this course is to provide participants with understanding of the management functions, concepts, principles as well as managerial roles within the context of hospital setting. As clinicians, the course seeks to reinforce present skills and experience by applying new theories and principles that offers a highly leverage approach to the management of hospitals. Essentially, the course is built around three mutually reinforcing objectives:
  To enable participants apply their knowledge and skills in a more integrated fashion to the analysis of the many    challenges confronting them in the hospital.
  Expose participants to basic management practices and skills required in to manage patients 
  To evaluate the specific contributions of a range of theories and fields of study to different aspects of hospital    management.

At the end of this course, participants should be able to develop deeper understanding of the processes, techniques and competencies required to better manage patients and their care givers. They should also be able to apply the hospital governance principles and leadership skills to solve the myriad of problems confronting them in the hospital.

Hospital management practices is a 3-day training programme aimed at enhancing the skills of all categories of nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, X-Ray technicians and other middle level managers in the hospital with managerial approaches to solving the many problems confronting them in the hospital.


Warehouse Management


Effective Supervision in Organisations
The goal of this course is to develop the capacity of frontline and middle-level managers to effectively lead and supervise subordinates. At the core of this course is the belief that the proof of effective supervision is in the achievement of measurable results through improved performance of subordinates and fellow managers.

The target audiences are: This course is designed for supervisors and frontline managers in both public and private organizations. It is expected that they have responsibilities for supervising and leading others.


Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)
The course provides executives, managers, SME operators and entrepreneurs with an understanding of how Enterprise Risk Management affects their business objectives. This interactive course introduces essential ERM principles and provides participants with a strong appreciation of the importance of a solid ERM framework to the success and long-term sustainability of their business. In the international business community, ERM has formed a pillar of corporate governance. Regulatory frameworks such as COSO, SOX and the King Codes provide legal requirements to ensure the success and sustainability of companies; in 2009, a new ISO standard, ISO 31000:2009, was introduced to provide principles and guidelines for enterprise risk management. Participants will learn to identify, evaluate and treat enterprise risks in ways that enable them to improve the success of any business – regardless of the size, type or location. The course is also designed for managers and professionals who are not directly responsible for enterprise risk management issues within their companies but would like to understand the impact of ERM on their domain within the company and improve the overall performance and sustainability of the business.

Supply Chain Management
This course provides tools and techniques for understanding, resolving the issues, designing and implementing better supply chain management processes and an appraisal or modern trends in supply chain management.

Course contents include:

 • How do you analyse inventory and capacity to devise a better supply chain management strategy?

Marketing of Financial Services
This course introduces participants to the fundamental principles, concepts and techniques of marketing financial products. Topics include:
 • Customer roles and buyer behaviour
 • Segmentation, targeting, and positioning
 • Product pricing and distribution
 • Repositioning/maximising sales of an existing product
 • Promotion and marketing communications

The course is most appropriate for junior to middle managers currently employed in medium to large-scale organisations in the financial services sector.

Internal Audit and Control
Internal auditing is an internal control over all controls in the Organisation. The objective of internal auditing is to assist all members of management in the effective discharge of their responsibilities by furnishing them with analysis, appraisals, recommendations, and pertinent comments concerning activities reviewed. Internal auditing is concerned with the operational efficiency and effectiveness of all aspects and phases of business activity in which they may be of service to management (line and staff). This involves going beyond the accounting and financial records to obtain a full understanding of the operations under review.

The major internal audit activities or responsibilities covered in the course are:

Information Management using Databases
The main objective of the course is centered around the design, implementation and testing of databases and how information management techniques can help organizations get accurate and timely information for making decision
Participants will understand and be able to do the following:
 1. Design a database and understand the basic terminologies of Databases such as
    a. Entities, attributes and relationships
    b. Primary and Foreign Keys
    c. Data structures (types and sizes)
 2. Implement a database using a Database Management System (DBMS) i.e. Microsoft Access to create a database to manage a     basic record keeping
 3. Apply Information Management techniques to give timely/accurate information for an organizational needs

Participants are required to have good knowledge in computing especially being able to use basic Microsoft Windows commands and other Applications Software like Microsoft Word, and Excel. Knowledge in Microsoft Access will be advantageous

Risk Management in Financial Institutions
The objectives of this course include enabling the participant to understand and appreciate the notion of risk and how situations of risk are managed appropriately. The course participant will be introduced to the process of risk management comprising the proper identification and evaluation of situations of risk as well as the choice of appropriate instruments of risk management.

The course will dwell on such formal and practical issues of formulating a risk management policy for the organisation and the required organisational set up necessary for effective risk management.

Each year international aid agencies, trusts and foundations are looking for new and innovative projects to fund. A number of overseas funding agencies operating in developing countries are shifting their emphasis on to empowering local NGOs and organisations to undertake most of the planning and implementation of projects.

Understand your office, your role in the office, telephone finesse, handling difficult callers/visitors, assertiveness, communication skills, juggling multiple responsibilities and the priorities of more than one Boss, tracking bosses, appointments, human relations, business etiquette.

Target groups are receptionists, secretaries, front desk officers of hotels, ministries, banks, public sector institutions, corporations, etc.


Management of Health Care Organisations
The overarching development objective of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of the management functions, concepts, and principles as well as managerial roles within the context of health service organizations and their external environment. As clinicians, the course seeks to reinforce present skills and experience by applying new theories and principles that offers a highly leverage approach to the management of health care organizations. Essentially, the course is built around three mutually reinforcing objectives:

At the end of this course, participants should be able to develop deeper understanding of the processes, techniques and competencies to health services management. Additionally, they should be able to either individually or collectively identify and research into specific problems facing healthcare institutions in low income countries such as Ghana and propose practical solutions to deal with the problem.
